Hi! My name is Emily Winkler. I am an Elementary Education/Collaborative major at The University of Alabama in Huntsville. I am scheduled to graduate in May 2016. Upon graduation my hope is to teach in the North Alabama area.
I have always had a passion for making a difference in the lives of today's youth, and with that in mind I believe that teaching is the best career for me. I cannot wait to one day have a classroom of my own! I look forward to teaching my students how to love learning!

About Me
I am originally for Dora, AL where I graduated in the top of my class from Dora High School. I was involved in many activities, organizations, and clubs while in high school, one of those includes being classically trained on piano for 13 years; and for me involvement did not stop when I entered college.
Prior to enrolling to the University of Alabama in Huntsville, I spent two years at the University of North Alabama where I severed as Miss UNA and a Pride of Dixie Majorette. After transferring to UAH, I became a Student Ambassador for the Office of Admissions and a member of Blue Crew. UAH has become my new home, and I am grateful for the support that is offered at UAH and in the North Alabama/Huntsville Area!
Before winning Miss UNA, I had been involved with the Miss Alabama/Miss America Organizations for many years. Through the Miss Alabama Organization I have learned the importance of community service and making a difference in the lives of people around you. This is where I truly realized I had a passion for today’s youth and that I wanted to establish a career in teaching.

Educational Philosophy
Teaching is a profession that you enter into not for the pay or for the benefits, but
to make a difference in the lives of future generations. I believe that every child is a unique
individual that possesses interesting talents and different styles of learning. Every student
deserves equal care and support from me, as a teacher. I feel that for me to establish a strong
structured classroom in which every student can develop to his or her own potential I must put an
emphasis on three different characteristics: classroom organization, involvement, and respect.
In order to be an effective teacher one must come into the classroom organized. I feel as
though I must go into my job interview organized and have a plan for my classroom. Without
classroom organization the students will lose all focus within seconds. For example, if I do
not know where the pencil basket is placed, and I turn around for ten seconds to find it then
I have completely lost the attention span of the students. Organization is one of my greatest
characteristics, and I feel that when I become a teacher I will carry that characteristic into my
classroom.
I firmly believe that involvement is the greatest way to have an impact in a child’s life.
When I say involvement, I mean involvement in every aspect, from faculty/staff involvement,
parent involvement, and just knowing what my students are struggling with in their personal
lives. It is always ideal to have a good relationship with your faculty and staff. I understand that
at times there are going to be disagreements and miscommunication, but as a teacher I must
create a stable environment for the children to learn and that starts with have good relationships
with my co-workers. Another way to create a stable environment is to have parent involvement.
Through communication and collaboration, the parent and teacher can join forces to ensure a
student’s achievement. Having the support from the parents will only enhance the child’s ability
to learn and to have a successful future. I also understand that not every parent is going to be
very involved in the child’s education, and that is where my involvement as a teacher must comes
in. I must have personal relationships with the children to understand what is going on in their
personal lives to fully give them the best education possible. As a teacher it is my job to be a
role model in the lives of my students, and I feel that to do that I need to me involved in all the
aspects that I have described.
I feel that having respect and gaining respect is one of the most vital parts of creating
a stable environment for my students. Respect is not something that can be gained until you have
given respect. As a teacher I must first gain the respect of my audience so that the student will
want to listen and learn. The presence of respect can be one of the most important learning tools
because it encompasses many traits at once. Characteristic traits like respect are vital to students’
development in not only their education but in their lives as well.
Teaching is more than a profession, it is a lifestyle. As a teacher, it is my job to be a
role model for the future generations. Anyone who has a job of some sort has come in contact
with some form of teacher. Teachers sculpt and prepare the future from the preschool level all
the way to the college level. This may sound as though it is a lot of weight on the shoulders of
teachers, and it is, but I eagerly await the challenge to produce the necessary foundation
for greatness.
